Certified Reference Materials for Zirconium Alloys

Written by Dave Coler | Sep 12, 2018 6:05:29 PM

Working with zirconium alloys ?  This group of alloys are used in critical applications in the chemical processing and nuclear industries. These alloys can be difficult to QC or  grade match for Positive Material Identification (PMI)  due to the lack of Certified Reference Materials.

We have addressed this need  with the introduction of the first certified reference materials for zirconium alloys, IARM Zr702-18 and IARM ZR705-18.  These reference materials cover the  two main commercially available Zirconium alloys, Zircadyne® 702 and Zircadyne® 705.

Zircadyne® 702 (UNS R60702) is a commercially pure zirconium alloy composed of 99.2% (Zr + Hf) containing approximately 4.5% hafnium.

Zircadyne® 705 (UNS R60705) has a similar composition as Zircadyne® 702 but is alloyed with 2-3% niobium.

These zirconium alloys have excellent chemical resistance and ductility. The Zircadyne® 705 is stronger and more ductile than Zircadyne® 702 due to the addition of niobium.  These alloys are typically used in chemical processing and nuclear applications.

The reference materials are available in three forms:

  1. 38mm diameter x3mm thick disks for EDXRF or WDXRF
  2. 38mm diameter x 19mm thick disks for OE (Optical Emission)
  3. 100g bottles of chips for ICP-OES and ICP-MS

You can learn more about these reference materials on our new product page where you can view and download the certificates of analysis.
