There is a new set of PE reference materials that will allow for compliance testing for the “Packaging Directive” (P&PW 94/62/EC).
This set consists of 2 reference materials:
PACK-High - (~100 mg/kg of Hg, Cr, Pb, and Cd)
PACK-Low - (~30 mg/kg of Hg, Cr, Pb, and ~60 mg/kg of Cd)
These materials are available now.

Check Set is now available for shipment!
Available individually or as a Check Set.
Please check the Brochure above and read below to view chemistries of other WEEE / RoHS Reference Materials
Heavy Metals in Plastic RMs – XRF Analysis
These Sets are now available for shipment!
European Community (EC) directives have defined specific limits for heavy metals in plastic. Sets of PE and PVC have been designed for screening heavy metals to check for compliance of these limits. We are now ready to deliver these reference materials! A manufacturing process has been developed that yields materials with good homogeneity. Br, Hg, Cr, Pb, and Cd in PE and PVC are now available in sets of 3 Reference Materials (RMs).
These sets of reference materials consist of 3 individual discs. Each disc is 31 mm in diameter and about 13 mm thick. The overall error of concentration of the added element is estimated at less than 4% relative at a 95% confidence level. Except, below 100 mg/kg the estimated error is 5 mg/kg absolute at a 95% confidence level.
There are many various additives combined with different plastics or polymers to give specific properties. XRF is often used to monitor these products. If you have a specific or special application need, please contact us for the possibility of custom made reference materials.
Establishing an accurate calibration for a series of elements in a product is a tedious and costly exercise. The use of a stable monitor means that the calibration procedure need only be carried out at long intervals.
The monitors listed below have been formulated so that they have appropriate count rates when analyzing the different ores and products. The monitors contain little flux and should have good long term stability. Most monitor types have been in use for many years and have given excellent stability.
The monitor discs are 40mm diameter. They are polished flat so that they can be mounted precisely and are easily cleaned. The following types are available:
Ausmon for Silicates and General Use - These monitors were designed for the analysis of rocks, soils and related materials. They can also be used as general purpose monitors for analyzing a wide range of materials, e.g. vegetables, etc. They contain the following elements as majors: Fe, Mn, Ti, Ca, K, Cl, S, P, Si, Al, Mg, Na & F. In addition about 2000ppm of each of the following are present: Sc (1000ppm), V, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, Ga, Ge, Se, As, Rb, Sr, Br, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Te, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Nd, Pr, Gd, Sm, Yb, Hf, Ta, W, Bi, Tl, Pb, Th, & U. (53 elements)

The ARMI Proficiency Testing Program (PTP) has been growing rapidly. Clients appreciate the significant difference and quality of this unique, ISO certified, PT Program. This PTP will enhance the data quality of any OE, XRF or ICP laboratory.
The following “bullets” tell why:
- An actual CRM is used as a test piece
- Results within 48 hours after your data is submitted
- Very easy to interpret performance
|
- Technical guidance for out of tolerance results
- The CRM is retained by your laboratory for future use
- Results are acceptable for laboratory accreditation programs
|
The ARMI PT program is a cornerstone for any Total Quality Assurance (TQA) laboratory.
Brand New - Cast Iron PT Program
ARMI is pleased to announce a new Cast Iron Proficiency Testing Program (PTP). We now have access to a source of Cast Iron Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) that we can use within the rules of the popular ARMI PTP. This new “Fast Response/CRM” Cast Iron ARMI PTP is the only one available worldwide to test chemical analysis proficiency with a CRM.
As with the other metal programs, after reporting your test results, you will keep the Certified Reference Material to use as a reference, either as a “type standard” or to add to your calibration. A Certificate of Analysis will be mailed to you along with a color-coded hard copy of your test results.
Please call for pricing and more information. We will waive the Initial Setup & Administration Fee of $225 for any new participants through the month of April 2005. Call us and we will help customize a program for your lab.
